Food Insecurity

Food Insecurity
LULAC Lambda regularly volunteers at the Capital Area Food Bank by assembling food packages for the organization's emergency feeding program that serves the District. We also have supported the Latin American Youth Center through the Food Bank's delivery program, and every year we have collected and donated to its food pantry.

Environment

Environment
Knowing that environmental justice an element of racial justice, one of our most impactful projects is cleaning up our local parks and waterways. LULAC Lambda heads to the Potomac River to pick up trash along the riverbanks, as well as to clean up other local areas like Rock Creek Park. We plan our clean ups on Earth Day in the Spring in addition to a second one in the Fall.

Voter Registration

Voter Registration
We conduct voter registrations and registration updates each year at various local LGBTQ and Latinx events. Every election cycle we visit neighborhoods in the Greater DC area to ensure everyone in our community is registered and knows where to vote on Election Day.

HIV Prevention

HIV Prevention
When it comes to the Latinx community, HIV and sexual wellness education is frequently a blind spot for public serving institutions. LULAC Lambda fills this gap by regularly partnering with local clinics to provide HIV testing in the area. We’ve partnered with Empodérate, Whitman-Walker Health, and NOVA Salud during special events to conduct outreach to the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community.

Mentoring

Mentoring
LULAC Lambda sponsors LULAC youth councils located within the District of Columbia. We’ve have mentored more than 100 teens since the beginning of our program at Columbia Heights Education Campus and E.L. Haynes Public Charter School. None of our students have dropped out school and many have successfully gone onward to pursue college degrees.
